This module provides a structured, science-based and practice-oriented framework for establishing and managing a Whale Shark–Based MPA in Saleh Bay, integrating whale shark biology and ecology, habitat protection, sustainable fisheries and tourism, and stakeholder co-management. It positions whale sharks as a flagship species to strengthen ecosystem-based management, enhance local capacity, and align conservation outcomes with community livelihoods. By translating scientific knowledge into operational guidance for governments, communities, educators, fishers, and tourism operators, the module supports effective, socially inclusive, and scalable implementation of species-based marine conservation in Indonesia, with Teluk Saleh presented as a transferable model for other regions.
