Rapid Assessment and Satellite Tracking of Migratory Marine Species in the Lesser Sunda Seascape

The Lesser Sunda Seascape (LSS) is one of the most biologically important marine regions in the Indo-Pacific, connecting the Pacific and Indian Oceans through highly productive coastal and offshore ecosystems influenced by the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF). The region supports globally important migratory marine species, including cetaceans, sharks, rays, sea turtles, and seabirds, which rely on the seascape for feeding, migration, aggregation, and breeding habitats.
Despite its ecological importance, many offshore and deep-sea habitats within the LSS remain poorly studied, while increasing fisheries activity, marine traffic, and climate-related pressures continue to threaten migratory marine megafauna populations.
