Modul 3 – Desain dan Pengelolaan Kawasan Konservasi

This module emphasizes that conservation areas are only effective when they are purposefully designed and actively managed, integrating ecological priorities with social and economic realities. It outlines core principles for designing Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), including clear conservation objectives, appropriate size and boundaries, zoning systems, ecological connectivity, and consideration of vertical (three-dimensional) space—elements that are particularly critical for highly mobile species such as whale sharks. The module highlights that stakeholder engagement, adaptive zoning, and regulated use (e.g., fisheries, tourism, and shipping) are essential to balance biodiversity protection with sustainable livelihoods, thereby strengthening long-term conservation outcomes and governance effectiveness in whale shark priority areas like Saleh Bay.
