This module demonstrates that conservation objectives for whale sharks can be achieved alongside economic activities when tourism and fisheries adopt sustainability principles. It presents practical guidance for sustainable whale shark tourism—such as interaction codes of conduct, visitor and vessel limits, and education—and for sustainable fisheries, including bycatch reduction, gear restrictions in critical habitats, and safe handling and release protocols. By integrating these practices, the module shows how conservation areas can reduce stress, injury, and mortality of whale sharks while simultaneously supporting long-term livelihoods, ecosystem health, and climate resilience, reinforcing sustainable use as a cornerstone of effective whale shark–based conservation management in Saleh Bay
