Prof. Jatna Supriatna

After receiving his Master of Science and Doctorate degrees from the University of New Mexico, USA, and pre- and post-doctorate from Columbia University in New York, Prof. Jatna began his career as a senior lecturer in the Department of Biology, University of Indonesia. Throughout his career, Prof. Jatna has led a number of organizations including the Research Center for Climate Change (RCCC) of the University of Indonesia, Executive Director/Vice President of Conservation International Indonesia (1994-2011), President of the South East Asia Primatologist Association (2006), Chair of the IUCN-SSC PSG Southeast Asia (2007), and became an active member of several international organizations such as IUCN, the International Primatological Society, and so on. In 2011, he was appointed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as a member of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences. Prof. Jatna has carried out a number of assignments for national-level initiatives by the Indonesian Government and also serves as Supervisor and Advisor for a number of non-profit environmental institutions. He has received a number of prestigious international awards for his dedication to conservation and the environment, as well as his contributions to research in Indonesia, including the Golden Ark Award (1999), Habibie Award (2008), Terry MacManus Award (2010), Achmad Bakrie Awards (2011) and Lifetime Achievement from Conservation International (2017). He has written more than 20 books on the environment and conservation, and more than 150 internationally reputable papers.
