Conserving Fisheries and Marine Resources
We work with the Indonesian government to support the achievement of the target of 30% of the total marine area as a conservation area by 2045. We are starting an innovative approach through the scheme blended finance and sustainable management of marine conservation areas and fisheries management areas, to provide long-term benefits for the economy, food security and biodiversity.
Facts Related to Fisheries and Marine Resources
Indonesia occupies second position as the largest producer of fishery products with a production volume of 24 million tonnes per year, which provides a livelihood for more than seven million people and providers of animal protein sources for half of Indonesian society.
With more than 17.500 islands, 108.000 km of coastline and 2/3 of the area being sea, the sea is identity and key to Indonesia's prosperity.
The Indonesian government has determined Blue Economy Strategy in the marine and fisheries sector to maximize the potential of marine resources to become Indonesia's economic strength.

Supporting the West Papua Provincial Government in strengthening management of 26 marine conservation areas in the marine conservation area network in the Bird's Head Seascape (BLKB) with a total area of 5,1 million ha.

Supporting the Government of Indonesia in implementing sustainable strategies and funding for the integration of marine conservation area protection and fisheries production in achieving sustainable fisheries management.
